ServerOps

Getting started

Set up ServerOps in ten minutes

From adding the bot to a server that runs itself. You need Manage Server in the server. Everything starts switched off, so nothing happens until you turn it on.

  1. Add ServerOps to your server

Click Add to Discord, pick your server, and keep the permissions it asks for. ServerOps then posts a short welcome with these steps in your server's system channel (or the first channel it can write in). Each permission is for something specific:

    • Manage Roles: self-roles, join roles, verification, level rewards, temporary roles.
    • Manage Channels: ticket channels. Manage Messages: AutoMod and purge.
    • Kick, Ban and Timeout Members: moderation and AutoMod's actions. View Audit Log: who did what, in the logs.
    • Manage Server: a copy of AutoMod's rules in Discord's own AutoMod, if you want it.
  2. Put its role in the right place

Discord only lets a bot manage roles below its own. Open Server Settings โ†’ Roles and drag the ServerOps role above every role it should give or take, and below your admin roles.

If a private channel should be watched (tickets, logs, staff), let the ServerOps role view it and send messages there.

  3. Run the setup wizard

In your server, run /dashboard and press Setup wizard (or /dashboard page: Setup wizard).

    1. Pick what kind of server it is: community, gaming, support, creator or private staff.
    2. Press Turn on recommended to switch on the modules a server like yours uses.
    3. Work down the checklist. Each step opens the page that finishes it.
  4. Set up each module

Every module has a page with the same layout: its switch, what needs fixing, its status, then its settings. A few to start with:

    • ๐Ÿ“œ Logs: pick a channel, and which kinds of events go where.
    • ๐Ÿ‘‹ Welcome & Verification: a greeting channel and message, join roles, and an optional verify button.
    • ๐ŸŽซ Tickets: a category, your staff roles, departments, then post the panel members click.
    • ๐ŸŽญ Self-roles: build a menu of roles, then post it in a channel.
    • ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ AutoMod: start from a preset, and try a message to see what it would do.
  5. Check everything with the health check

/dashboard โ†’ Full health check lists what stops anything from working: a missing permission, a role above the bot's, a channel it can't post in, a panel that isn't posted. Each module with a problem gets a Fix button that opens its page. Run it again after a change.

  6. Use the dashboard on the website

Log in with Discord on this site, pick a server, and you get the same settings as /dashboard, with more room. Both go through the same checks in the bot, and every change is recorded: who made it, what changed, and whether it came from Discord or the website.

Logging in only tells ServerOps who you are. It never sees your email or your server list.

  7. Back up your settings

Once it's set up, press Back up settings in /dashboard (or download it from your server's page here). You get one file with every module's settings, your self-role menus and sticky messages, and none of your members' data.

  8. Tell your members what they can do

Members can check their level with /rank and /leaderboard, play with /games, set reminders with /remind, post ideas with /suggest, and manage their own data with /privacy. /help shows each member the commands they can use (and your moderators theirs). The command reference lists every command and what it does.

Common questions

The bot doesn't give a role. Why?

Its own role has to be above the role it gives, and it needs Manage Roles. Server Settings โ†’ Roles: drag the ServerOps role up. /dashboard โ†’ Full health check names every role it can't reach.

Who can change ServerOps' settings?

Members with Manage Server, in /dashboard and on this website. The bot checks it again on every click, so a dashboard left open by someone who lost the permission stops working.

Does ServerOps read our messages?

It reads messages as they arrive, for AutoMod, XP and games, and doesn't keep their text unless your server turns that on. The Privacy Policy lists everything it keeps.

A command says it moved to /dashboard.

ServerOps used to have separate admin commands (/control, /setup, /config and others). They're all in /dashboard now. If Discord still lists one, restarting Discord refreshes the list.

How do members remove their data?

With /privacy delete in your server. It shows what goes and what stays (like moderation cases) before anything is deleted.

Can I move my settings to another server?

Download a settings backup from /dashboard or this website. Channel and role ids belong to the server they came from, so another server needs its own, picked on its dashboard.
